Warm weather and rich with lakes, billabongs and creeks the Goulburn Valley is an ideal environment for growing Rhone varietals like Marsanne, Shiraz and Rousanne. Buttery Chardonnays are also a speciality of this region. The famous Tahbilk Winery and vineyard is home to some of the oldest vines in the country and their Shiraz is truly a national treasure. The cooler heights of the majestic Strathbogie Ranges produces some wonderful cool climate wines like Pinots, Rieslings and Gewurztraminers for you to discover in some of Victoria’s most glorious countryside. Gourmets will be thrilled with fresh stone fruit, berries, cheeses and olives that this region offers.
With us you will visit two of the Goulburn Valley’s most famous wineries, Mitchelton Winery - a modern architectural stunner, with it’s Preece label one of the success stories of the past decade, and Tahbilk Winery, where you can taste their fine wines in the original 1860’s cellar - the buildings and architecture are unique- and then wander over to their new Wetlands Café for a contemporary and environmental experience.
A fantastic way to discover these wonderful wineries is to cruise between them on the MV Major Mitchell, taking in the flora and fauna along the banks. A gourmet barbeque on board is a delightful way to enjoy this cruise if the mood takes you.
